GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — Five Southern Guilford High School students were in a car that wrecked Friday afternoon, killing one of them.
Around 12:15 p.m., highway patrol says the kids left school and were speeding down Wall Road when the car went off the shoulder and hit a ditch less than a mile from the school.
When the car overturned, a 15-year-old girl in the back seat was partially ejected through the sun roof.
Troopers think Diana Sanchez Varela wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
She died from her injuries.
The three other passengers ran from the scene but authorities tracked them down, and they’re all okay.
The 15-year-old driver had minor injuries.
Junior court counselors are reviewing the case for possible criminal charges.
