belairdirect now offers an extra discount to ontario drivers who travel less than 10,000 kilometres per year in the new version of its tool of telematics automérite. A survey carried out by the insurer shows that nearly a third (32%) of vehicle owners ontarians have a low mileage on the odometer.

The program automérite is available across the country, but the discount for low mileage is available only in Ontario first, said belairdirect in the Journal of the insurance. “We want to first evaluate the adoption and the appreciation of our clients for this new option in our program of telematics before expanding across the country,” says Jennifer Beck, a spokesman for belairdirect.

Three-quarters of survey respondents indicated they choose to drive less to save money. In addition, 74% say they agree to use an application that takes into account their driving habits to determine an auto insurance premium custom. People living in urban areas are more likely to adopt this type of application, says the survey.
