One of the leading figures of the right sector financial and insurance over the past four decades, Jean Martel turns another page in the creation of his consulting firm : Martelligence.
Mr. Martel was a partner of Lavery since 1999, he retired at the end of 2018. It has, however, clarified to the Journal of insurance that he intended to remain active in embracing of the files that were most important to him heart while taking some of the mandates of consultation.
During his career, mr. Martel has been at the heart of great public folders in Quebec. By the same token, it has become a reference in national and international law, securities, financing of corporations, financial institutions, financial services and capital market.
Passage to the ministry of Finance
Me Martel has been assistant deputy minister of the Finance of the government of Québec from 1988 to 1994. It is then the responsibility of the development of public policy and legislation in the area of financial institutions, securities, financial services and funds of workers.
From 1995 to 1999, he held the functions of president of the Commission des valeurs mobilières du Québec (CVMQ), the controller that was integrated within theAuthority of the financial markets during its creation.
He is a member of the boards of directors of TMX Group Inc. ─ public company that operates the Toronto stock Exchange, the Montreal Exchange and the Canadian stock Exchange, TSX venture exchange and the Alpha Exchange.
He has also served on various boards of directors including those of the Régie de l’assurance-dépôts du Québec, the Groupement des assureurs automobiles, theinvestment dealers Association of canada securities, securities of State Street Global Advisors, the business development Bank of Canada and ofOceanic Iron Ore.
