The Journal of insurance has unveiled yesterday which was the first member of the advisory Committee on the practice of representatives of thefinancial markets Authority. A few hours later, the regulator has unveiled the names of 14 others.

The Journal of insurance has consulted the Register of firms and individuals authorized to practice to learn more about the profile of the committee. The Journal has observed that the 15 members are all representatives certified by the Autorité des marchés financiers.
Also, 12 of the 15 members of the committee have more of a right to practice to their license. For example, three of them have dual certification in general insurance and in life insurance, Karine Bélanger, Catherine Mainguy and Patrice Pouliot.
The number, 10 members have the right to engage in insurance of persons, 5 in group insurance, and 5 are representatives of mutual fund dealer. Two of the members of the committee, having a certification in financial services are also officers or directors, Michel Kirouac and Guy Duhaime, who occupy management functions, respectively at Groupe Cloutier and Groupe Financier Multi Courtage, two general agents.
Seven members in damage
In general insurance, we find seven members of the committee who practice in this area. There are four brokers, two agents and a claims adjuster, in the person of Richard Sills, of Intact.
In addition, three members of the committee are involved with the Regroupement des cabinets de courtage d’assurance du Québec (RCCAQ) during the past few years. Catherine Mainguy and Vincent Gaudreau has chaired the board of directors. Patrice Pouliot is currently the president-elect. It is, therefore, to say that he should occupy the presidency of the council of administration of the Combination in the fall.
“Strengthen the role of the regulator in the vicinity”
For Louis Morisset, president and CEO of the Authority, the establishment of this committee “is fully” in the strategic plan 2017-2020 the regulator. “This new initiative is another way that we strive to strengthen our role as a regulator of proximity. By bringing together industry representatives in a committee whose work will be focused on their practice, we will ensure that we consolidate an open and constructive dialogue to the benefit of consumers and the industry. “
The Committee is also mandated to discuss with representatives of the Authority on a variety of topics covering, among others, on the practices of distribution of insurance products and services, and financial planning. The members are called upon to provide information, suggestions, ways of thinking and constructive solutions aimed to contribute to the development, interpretation and implementation of the supervision of their sector of activity.
“The additional light provided by the committee will be of a nature to ensure a framework and a set of regulations in the modern, adapted, and inspired by the best practices,” added Frédéric Pérodeau, superintendent of the assistance to clients and the supervision of the distribution. The mandate of the members of the committee is for a term of two years.
