The Round Table of millionaires (MDRT) has done a fundraiser to combat human trafficking and wishes at the same time educating its members to recognize the signs of this type of criminal activity.
The MDRT is now associates with the non-profit organization, The Exodus Road who are fighting against human trafficking and assisting survivors.
An issue that is little known
At the annual meeting of the MDRT on June 25, last year, more than 15,000 members in 67 different countries participated in the forum of the foundation MDRT. The CEO of The Exodus Road, Matt Parker, has trained members to recognize the signs of human trafficking to report any suspicious activity. The MDRT was also awarded half of the donations obtained at the forum in the body.
“A lot of people don’t understand the realities of the trafficking of human beings in their own neighbourhood, or do not realize their global prominence. We hope to have a lasting impact and global in the movement against human trafficking. Of the 67 countries represented by our members at the forum will leave with strategies tangible that they can implement in their communities, ” explains the president of the Foundation MDRT, Marc Silverman.
A global problem
According to theinternational labour Organization, human trafficking and slavery affect 20 to 40 million people in 136 countries. The Exodus Road adds to the trafficking of human beings generates illegal profits estimated at $ 150 billion each year, and is the second largest criminal industry in the world.
Approximately 58% of the people who live in modern slavery are in India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan, but it is estimated that 57 700 the number of victims who are in the United States.
